It’s been a wild few years for everyone, but even more so for Andriy Podoba, who’s been holding it down in Ukraine while still putting out mind-melting riding. We caught up with him to see how things are going, what life’s like at home right now, and how he’s getting on with his latest BSD setup...
How’s life in Ukraine been lately?
The situation in my city has worsened significantly. Russian attacks continue around the clock. Drones and missiles leave no sense of peace or safety. There’s no electricity for most of the day. Men can’t walk outside calmly without military documents, as the police and recruitment officers are constantly conducting raids. You can be walking down the street and, without any explanation, they can grab you and force you into a car.
Are you able to travel outside of Ukraine yet, or are things still locked down?
I can’t leave Ukraine, and even within the country, I’m unable to move around freely.
Do you feel like the conflict with Russia is still heating up, or are things starting to calm down a bit?
I feel that the conflict is escalating. There’s no talk of calm or relief. Everything is much worse than you can imagine.
Are you still managing to go out riding as often as you’d like?
Whenever possible, I still go out to ride, but unfortunately not as often as before because of the weather. Still, whenever the sun comes out, I head straight to the skatepark.
That new 'military green' ALVX-AF+ build looks so good! Are you stoked on how it’s feeling?
I’m completely satisfied with how my new ALVX setup looks. The new color is just fire!
You’ve been running the new (soon-to-be-released) BSD CRBN-XLT rims. How are you liking them?
The new BSD carbon rims are sick! Lightweight, good-looking, and very sturdy. I haven’t changed them in about two years, and they still look like new!
You’ve had the BSD Revolution v1.5 hub on your bike for a while now. How’s it been holding up for you?
The latest version of the BSD Revolution hub is simply the best! I really like that it allows you to do tricks just like with a regular cassette hub, and it doesn’t need any maintenance.
Anything else you’d like to say or anyone you’d like to give a shoutout to?
I’d like to sincerely thank Grant Smith for all the support he’s given me and for understanding the situation I’m in right now. And overall, I’d like to send my greetings to the whole BSD team. I hope that one day we’ll be able to ride together. ❤️
Always good catching up with Andriy. Despite everything happening at home, he’s still out there killing it and keeping the stoke alive! Check out his new setup below...

I'm super happy I've had the chance to ride the new BSD CRBN-XLT carbon rims. I mainly wanted them for their lightweight design, and I immediately noticed the difference once they were on my bike — whips and barspins felt so much easier. Rotational weight really makes a big difference! The rims also feel super solid and look great too, I love them! Keep an eye out for them hitting stores soon!
